At Penn State Beaver, the first home game ended in Beaver beginning their conference season 2-0. The first game of the doubleheader was a close one as Beaver scored one in the bottom of the seventh to get the 3-2 victory. The winning pitcher was Zack DelTurco (Monaca, Monaca High School) who went all seven innings, giving up no earned runs on just five while striking out two. Beaver started their scoring in the first inning when Markus Allen (New Castle, Union) hit a towering solo homerun to give Beaver the 1-0 lead. Brandywine answered with two runs in the second inning but Beaver was able to tie in back up in the bottom of the second when Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center) scored on a James Pashuta (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) sacrifice fly. No more runs crossed the plate for either side until the bottom of the seventh when Allen led off the inning with a double. Allen would score the game winner when Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) knocked him in with a walk-off single. For the game, both Allen and Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, Center) finished with 2 hits each.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Beaver won by a score of 6-2. Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) picked up the win, going the complete game giving up just 1 earned run on 5 hits and striking out 3. Tom Lewis got the offense going in the second when he scored on a Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer) RBI single. In the third inning, Pashuta scored on a Allen double and Allen would later score following an error. In the sixth, Beaver added 3 more runs when Andrew DiPietrantonio (Beaver, Beaver) scored on an Allen RBI groundout, and then both Filippi and Pashuta scored on a DelTurco RBI single. Brandywine scored two in the seventh but that would not be enough as Beaver held on to their lead. Beaver improves their record to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in PSUAC conference play. They will play again on Thursday when they travel to Bethany College.
