Dowdrick and Vermilya Named Penn College Athletes of the Year

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology Athletics Department named senior archer Joseph Dowdrick III, of Lebanon, and freshman women's soccer player Reda Vermilya, of Turbotville, the 2012-13 Male and Female Athletes of the Year on Sunday, April 21. This is the second year the honors have been awarded. The award is voted on by a committee comprised of department representatives and coaches.

Dowdrick is a four-year member of the archery team and is competing during this spring's season. His efforts have not gone unnoticed as he is ranked first in the nation in the men's bowhunter discipline. So far this season he has won two individual trophies and helped the team to six team first places with the bowhunter squad. Dowdrick consistently has been a top contender for the Wildcats, having been named a United States Collegiate Archery All-American twice.

Vermilya had a phenomenal rookie season in goal for the Lady Wildcats last fall, racking up 141 saves and six shutouts while helping the team to eight wins and a berth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament. She led the conference in saves and was third in save percentage. Vermilya's efforts earned her a spot on the USCAA All-American Second Team and she also was named 'Goalie of the Week' and the Wildcats' Most Valuable Player.
