Beaver Basketball: So Far, So Good
Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball Team (3-1, 0-0 PSUAC) played their second home game of the season against Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA).
Geneva started out the game on top 4-0, before Beaver had a layup followed by a Tyler Care (Lincoln Park/Hopewell, PA) three point shot to give the Lions the lead 5-4. A slow start to the half had the score pretty close before the Golden Tornadoes took a 17-16 lead at the 13:56 mark. Beaver trailed by as much as 24-28 before Senior Tony Houghton (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) hit a three point shot with 6:35 giving the Lions the lead 30-29. Geneva took the lead again at 3:45, and went into the half ahead 47-41.
Freshman Robert Agurs (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh, PA) and Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) gave Beaver a 5-2 run to start the second half. Darius Prince (West Mifflin/Pittsburgh, PA) then had a layup plus a foul shot to tie the game at 51 apiece. The game was tied again at 53 before back to back points from Prince and Houghton gave the Lions the lead again at 60-53. A three point play from Quentin Burton (Ambridge/Ambridge, PA) gave Beaver their biggest lead of the night 65-55. Geneva then responded with a 10-0 run, tying the game at 65 with 9:52 remaining. The Golden Tornadoes took the lead 67-65 at 8:44, but another three pointer by Houghton gave Beaver the lead again at 8:22. Beaver never trailed the rest of the game, and went on to win 89-83.
Beaver shot 49.2% from the field and 35.7% from three point range, while Geneva shot 59.6% from the field and 25% from three point range. Prince led the Lions tonight with 20 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Houghton with 13 points, and Miller and Agurs with 11 points each.
Beaver will play their first PSUAC game of the season at home against PSUAC rival Penn State Dubois (DuBois, PA) Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 8pm.
