Monaca, PA---- Penn State Beaver continued to impress on Saturday as they won their fifth straight conference game to open the season 5-0 in the PSUAC beating the Wildcats of Penn College 79-62. Beaver and Penn shot nearly equal from the field as Beaver shot 45.7% and Penn shot 45.6% but it was Beaver's defense making the difference, forcing 28 turnovers and had 23 steals. Beaver also had 22 assists to Penn's 11. Beaver opened up with a 19-14 run and took a six point lead into halftime, 40-34. Beaver then took a 66-51 lead with 8 minutes left and Penn was able to cut it to 10, 70-60, with 4:30 left in the contest. Beaver then went on a 9-2 to close out the victory.
Rob Agurs (Pittsburgh, Penn Hills) had another strong performance, scoring 28 for the second consecutive game while also adding 9 rebounds. Lamont Wright (Penn Hills, Penn Hills) had 17 points and dished out 7 assists while Nick Miller (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) had 13 points and 5 assists. Mike Martin (Dublin OH, Dublin Jerome ) had 9 points and 5 rebounds and Pat Horton (Farrell, Farrell) finished with 8 points.
Beaver will play again on Tuesday night as they host PSU Greater Allegheny at 8pm at the Beaver Fieldhouse as they look to improve to 6-0 in PSUAC play.
