WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Jose Gomez-Zavala (Kennett Square) scored the game winner to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Bryn Athyn College Saturday. Junior David Munn (Athens) recorded the win in goal making five saves. The game was the last for the Wildcats in their regular season ending 13-2-1.
Bryn Athyn's (4-11) Blake McCurdy opened up the scoring in the 27th taking a ball down the side and sending it into the corner past Munn. The Lions held onto the lead until the 44th when a handball in the box sent freshman Tarik LaRoche (Milton) in for a penalty kick which he made quick work of. The game would stay 1-1 going into the break.
In the 64th, sophomore Talila Tolla (Mountville) made a short pass to Gomez-Zavala in front of the goal who quickly sent it into the net giving Penn College the lead. Freshman Yousef Alyamani (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) gave the team a cushion with a goal in the 75th, again from Tolla.
The Wildcats outshot Bryn Athyn 31-10 in the game.
Penn College will start conference playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The match will be at 5 p.m. and will be against the winner of the quarterfinal match between Penn State Beaver and Penn State New Kensington.
