Rematch of Last Year's PSUAC Championship in Brandywine
Media, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (9-5, 6-2 PSUAC) hit the road this evening against Penn State Brandywine (Media, PA) a rematch of the 2011 PSUAC championship game between the two. The Lady Lions hoped that this time they would walk away with the win.
Beaver came out strong and ready, with a chip on their shoulder after falling to Brandywine in the final seconds of the PSUAC final last year. The Lady Lions kept the game close for most of the half, and went into halftime up by 8.
In the second half, the momentum started to shift from Beaver into Brandywine's favor. The Lady Lions lead by much as 15 until the last four minutes of the game. Brandywine forced two turnovers in under a minute. Going on a 14-0 run and holding Beaver to only seven points in the last four minutes, Brandywine took a three point lead (59-56) with 22 seconds left in the game. Two more free throws moments later after Beaver couldn't make a tying shot resulted in the Lady Lions falling to Brandywine 61-56.
For the evening, Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) led the team with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) also had 10 rebounds. The Lady Lions shot 31.3% from the field and 28% from three point range.
The Lady Lions next game will be on the road Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1pm against Penn State Mont Alto (Mont Alto, PA).
