Brandywine Women Advance to PSUAC Championship Game

2012 PSUAC Women's Basketball Championship
#2 Beaver vs. #3 Brandywine

Action continued in the PSUAC semi-finals with a rematch of last year's finals between Brandywine and Beaver.  After the opening tip off Beaver came out of the gate strong and pushed the pace on both ends of the floor.  Beaver stormed out to an early 10 point lead before Brandywine closed the gap to just one possession.  Beaver put there foot back on the peddle to end the half with a 32 to 26 lead.   Beavers # 25 Brooke Mulneix was 4-8 from three point range and led the team with 12 points in the first half.  Brooke and fellow teammate # 3 Brittany Tomaselli had 20 of Beavers 36 first half points.  Brandywine stayed with the fast pace Beaver offense out-rebounding their opponents 19-12 in the first half.  Brandywine junior guard Bobbi Caprice led her team with 8 first half points.  And the defending champs would have to pick up their offence if they want to have a chance to defend their title.
Brandywine took the first possession of the second half, and #12 Irene Matos converted a lay up to get the scoring started.  From there #22 Cashae Hinton took the team on her back and in the process made a few miraculous shots.  Brandywines whole team joined in and went on a 19-6 run to take a 45 to 38 lead before Beaver took its first time out of the half.  Coming out of the time out Beavers #42 Kayona Ward converted a quick bucket and steel on the other end of the court to giver Beaver some life.
Brandywine would have none of it as last year's MVP #3 Amanda Congialdi and #22 Cashae Hinton would convert lay ups to extend Brandywines lead to 51-40, its largest of the game.  Beaver battled back but at the 3:30 mark emotions were running high with beaver down by 10.  Brandywine kept pouring on the pressure when Cashae Hinton hit a bucket and #1 Shari Harper was followed twice in back to back possessions.  Harper made a free throw on each fowl to make the score 63-49 Brandywine and this matchup between the two and three seeds was all but over.  Brandywine controlled the ball for the final 1:30 and would win this highly anticipated rematch 63-49.
Beavers #25 Brooke Mulneix led her team with 15 points, 4 steels, and 9 rebounds.  She was also 5-12 form beyond the arc but only 3 of her points would come in the second half.  Brandywines Senior #1 Shari Harper led her team with 16 points, and 15 rebounds.  #22 Cashae Hinton added 13 points, and #12 Brandy Flowers & #23 Bobbi Caprice had 12 and 11 points respectively.
Brandywine will now advance to the 2012 PSUAC Championship Final against #1 seeded Fayette tomorrow at 1:00pm
