HAZLETON, Pa. - With four players in double figures, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team defeated Penn State Hazleton 69-61. Freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) led with 17 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) also notched a double-double with 11 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds. Rounding out the top scorers was sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) with 16 points and senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) with 10. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
The first half was a lot of back in forth play with Penn College only having a lead as high as four. Hazleton went into the break up 30-27.
With two minutes left in the second, the Wildcats were up by seven when Hazleton pulled it back to within four. Strong shooting and defense allowed Penn College to keep the lead to the end.
As a team, the Wildcats outrebounded Hazleton 57-41.
Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Saturday, Jan. 19 for a 1 p.m. game.
