Congratulations to Schuyler Frey and the wrestlers at Penn College as they lay claim to top honors for PSUAC teams in PSUAC/USCAA Wrestling Invitational held at Rec Hall in University Park with 108 points over 2nd place PS DuBois with 98 points.
Individual champions for Penn College were 141lbs Derek Leiby and 174lbs Logan Gresock; other team members placing in the tournament were 141lbs Kyle Sunseri (3rd), 157lbs Tyler Myers (4th), 165lbs Austin Clark (5th), 184lbs Paul Crutchlow (3rd), Jasper Ocker (3rd).
Penn College wrestled a great final round scoring 28 team points in the placing bouts to over-take Penn State Dubois which had a 14 point lead heading into the final round of competition. It took a total team effort by Penn College to claim the title; they also recorded bonus points with falls in the decisive final round.
Other PSUAC schools that had individual champions were PSU Fayette's 157lb Dan Karpency with a 5-3 win over Shane Alterio of DuBois and PSU New Kensington's 184lb Matt Kepple who scored a come from behind victory 6-4 OT over Justin Martz of Apprentice.
Penn State Dubois was 2nd among the conference schools with 98 points and four wrestlers who placed 2nd in their weight class. Overall the PSUAC represented itself very well with the competition at this year's championship.
Two USCAA powers battled for the over-all team title with Apprentice School edging Lindenwood-Belleville 169 points to 167. The team race came down to the 285lb championship bout which was won by Ian Jones of Apprentice 4-3 giving the Ship Builders the team title by 2 points.
