ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Valeria Passalacqua (McAlisterville) netted three goals to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's soccer team to a 9-0 decisive win over Cedar Crest College. Junior Sarah Zeigler (Liverpool) and freshman Madilyn Walters (Lewistown) each added two goals in the win that sees the team improve to 2-1 on the season. Freshmen keepers Reda Vermilya (Turbotville) and Kristin Foti (Landing, N.J.) combined for the shared shutout.
The Wildcats scored five goals in the opening half. Walters put them on the board in the seventh off a pass from freshman Robyn Beddow (Lancaster). Just a minute later it was Passalacqua with an unassisted goal from the center of the box with Walters following again with a similar goal in the 11th. After Passalacqua scored her second goal, Zeigler got on the board with help from senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport).
Out of the break, freshman Kaileen Delaney (Lancaster) got right to business with a short chip off a pass from Passalacqua in the 49th. Two more unassisted goals, one each from Passalacqua and Zeigler made it 8-0 before sophomore Elizabeth Greis (Pottsville) closed out Penn College's tab with a goal off a pass from Delaney.
Vermilya recorded the win with a three save shutout. After coming out in the 77th, Foti closed out the game. The Wildcats totaled 25 shots to Cedar Crest's five.
Next up, Penn College travels to Mount Aloysius College on Thursday, Sept. 13 for a 4 p.m. game.
