McKeesport, PA----- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver won twice today by defeating both PSU Wilkes-Barre and PSU Scranton at Greater Allegheny during a quad match on Sunday afternoon. After suffering two losses on Saturday, Beaver battled back to win twice on Sunday and after falling behind 2 sets to none in the Scranton match, Beaver was able to come all the way back and pull off the shocking victory in what could prove to be a season defining performance. Beaver got strong play all around as they played their best volleyball of the 2012 season. Strong defense from Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, Freedom), a solid overall performance by Daina Owens (Farrell, Farrell), dominating offense from both Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls) and Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, Sto-Rox) and solid setting by Gina Richman (Edinburg, Union) and Amanda Palumbo (Aliquippa, Quigley Catholic) all combined to make this an impressive performance from the Lady Lions. Beaver won the first match in three straight sets and followed that up with the epic comeback victory over Scranton. Beaver now improves to 4-8 in PSUAC conference play and appears to be playing their best at the right time heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Beaver will play again on Tuesday as they travel to PSU Mont Alto for a tri-match against Mont Alto and PSU York.
