TEAM OF THE WEEK
Penn State Shenango Baseball
The Penn State Shenango baseball team went 5-1 during the week with a four-game sweep of Penn State New Kensington and a series split with Kent State-Tuscarawas in nonconference play. Shenango sits second in the conference standings, and its success has been powered largely by its offense. The team leads the conference in hits (200) and walks (100). It also boasts the second-highest batting average (.317) and slugging percentage (.412).

Tyler Houk, Penn State Shenango

Righthander Tyler Houk added to the stellar start of his college career at Penn State Shenango with a six-inning, no-hit performance against Penn State New Kensington. Houk struck out eight and walked just one. Through his first 18 innings on the mound, he has struck out 22 batters. He’s 3-0 with a save he has not given up a run.

Linda Shepard, Penn State New Kensington
Third Year
Harmonsburg, Pa.
Right-handed pitcher Linda Shepard made the most of her only mound appearance during the week for Penn State New Kensington. She pitched seven innings and got the non-conference victory over NCAA Division III opponent Carlow University, allowing just two hits and no earned runs. She struck out two batters and walked two, improving to 4-1 on the season with the decision. Her ERA now sits at 1.60 for the year.

SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK 4
Kierstyn Mays, Penn State Beaver

Sterling, Ill.
Kierstyn Mays made a well-rounded contribution at the plate over a half dozen games for Penn State Beaver during the week. Mays hit .500 and scored five runs. She also drove in four runs, drew three walks and stole two bases. Mays was also perfect on 24 chances in the field for Beaver. For the season, Mays ranks among her team leaders in batting average (.353) and on-base percentage (.386).

Gabe Kendrick, Penn State Greater Allegheny

Righthander Gabe Kendrick made one appearance and got the victory in dominant fashion for Penn State Greater Allegheny during the week. He went six innings, struck out 11 and did not allow an earned run during the first game of a doubleheader against Penn State Beaver. For the season, Kendrick has worked 24 innings on the mount and struck out 33.

Outfielder Andrew Klotz hit .400 over a five-game span during the week as Penn State Schuykill kept its hold on first place in the East Division with conference victories. With six hits, eight RBI and seven runs scored himself, Klotz accounted for 15 runs during the week. A menace on the basepaths, Klotz stole four bases to put himself in scoring position. As the team’s leadoff hitter, Klotz has been productive, scoring 31 runs and drawing 19 walks so far this season.
