2010's All-Decade Team: Baseball

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference continues its All-Decade Team recognition with its baseball selections. The sport saw four programs win conference titles during the decade, with Penn State Greater Allegheny dominating the first half with four championships. Penn State DuBois cleaned up the back half of the decade with two straight conference titles, plus two USCAA Small College World Series wins, adding a third in 2021. In between, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Mont Alto got in on the medals with two conference titles each.

Now let us introduce to you our 2010s Baseball All-Decade Team (presented in alphabetical order). We thank our campus athletic administrators for providing the write-ups for our honorees.

 

Marcus Allen, Penn State Beaver

Marcus Allen played for Penn State Beaver from 2009 to 2013.  In his senior season, Allen batted .443, scoring 31 runs, drilling in 29 while hitting two home runs.  He was named the PSUAC Player of the Year in 2013.  He was a member of the 2010 PSUAC Baseball Championship team. Smith was also named a USCAA All-American three times, PSUAC All-Conference three times, and PSUAC All-Academic twice.

Sam Beucher, Penn State Fayette 

Sam Beucher was a staple for Penn State Fayette baseball from 2009 to 2012. Beucher was named to the PSUAC All-Conference team four times, including once as Player of the Year. Beucher was also a three-time USCAA All-American, including once on the First Team. Beucher also earned Fayette's Outstanding Scholar-Athlete award during his career at Fayette. A star on the mound and at the plate, Beucher's senior season saw him strike out 47 batters in 48 innings while also finishing in the top 10 in batting statistics despite playing far fewer games than many of his contemporaries. 

Garrett Brown, Penn State DuBois

Garrett Brown was a member of the inaugural baseball team at Penn State DuBois and was a leader for four years. Brown's career stats include 132 games, 396 at bats, 102 runs, 125 hits, 83 stolen bases, and a career .316 batting average. Brown also helped lead DuBois to their first two USCAA Small College World Series Championships. 

Toner Corl, Penn State DuBois

Toner Corl played four seasons with Penn State DuBois, helping the program dominate the last half of the decade. Corl played in 125 games, picked up 142 hits, 29 doubles, nine home runs, 102 RBI’s, 31 stolen bases, and a career batting average of .371. Corl also led the USCAA in RBI’s in 2021. 

Corl was a standout both in the batters box and on the mound. Corl finished his career on the bump 13-2 with three saves, 70 strikeouts, and a 2.46 ERA. Corl finished his career as a two-time USCAA All-American. He is also a three-time USCAA Small College World Series Champion, including the 2019 World Series MVP.  

Nick Cassasanta, Penn State Beaver

Nick Cassasanta played baseball at Penn State Beaver from 2014-2017.  Over his career, he hit .332, scored 67 runs, drove in 72, and had 20 career doubles.  On the mound Cassasanta had a 3.34 ERA, striking out 111 over 151 innings. Cassasanta was named a USCAA All-American and PSUAC All-Conference his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was also named to the PSUAC All-Academic team his senior year.  Cassasanta was a member of the 2016 PSUAC Baseball Championship team.

Eddie Emes, Penn State Greater Allegheny

Eddie Emes was one of the most decorated pitchers to toe the rubber at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Over his four-year career, his numbers sit at the top of many of the statistical categories.  Emes was names to the PSUAC All-Conference team and was also a USCAA All-American during his career.

Gabe Encarnacion, Penn State Brandywine

Gabe Encarnacion, a two-time USCAA All-American, starred for the Penn State Brandywine baseball team from 2012-15. The 2014 PSUAC Player of the Year when he batted .475 over 35 games, Encarnacion finished his 126-game career as a .390 hitter with 156 hits, 98 runs scored and 97 RBI. Also successful in the classroom, Encarnacion received the 2015 John S. Egli Award from the PSUAC, while also earning four PSUAC All-Academic Team and three USCAA National Academic Team laurels.  

Justyn Francona, Penn State Beaver

Justyn Francona played baseball at Penn State Beaver from 2016-2021. Over his career, he batted .340, scoring 76 runs, while driving in 82 and hitting 8 home runs. He also stole 34 bases. As a pitcher, Francona won 10 games, striking out 112 over 162 innings. He was a two-time USCAA All-American, a three-time PSUAC All-Conference, and a three time PSUAC All-Academic award winner. 

Chris Kreider, Penn State Schuylkill

Chris Kreider was the first recruit to commit to play baseball at Penn State Schuylkill out of ELCO High School(PA), in the spring of 2013. Kreider quickly became a pillar of the success that Schuylkill Campus quickly enjoyed in their first full year of baseball in 2014. As a freshman, Kreider led the USCAA in home runs with 10 and earned the respect of opposing teams with their defenses trying to work around his prowess. He served as a team captain for three seasons, earning three PSUAC First Team All-Conference honors and an Honorable Mention selection over hte course of his career. Kreider was also a two-time USCAA First Team All-American, along with an Honorable Mention selection. Kreider holds Schuylkill records for games played, runs scored, career & season RBI, career triples, total bases, home runs (career, season, game), on-base percentage and career OPS.

Matt Masi, Penn State Brandywine

Matt Masi was one of the top power hitters in the PSUAC during the last decade, recording 15 home runs in three seasons at Brandywine. After blasting three home runs during both his freshman and sophomore campaigns, Masi set a single-season school record with nine long balls in 35 games during the 2018 season to earn PSUAC Player of the Year honors. A two-time USCAA All-American and First Team All-PSUAC selection, Masi was a career .320 hitter with 80 RBI, 68 runs and 34 stolen bases. Of his 95 career hits, more than half (52) went for extra bases. 

Blaise McCarty, Penn State Beaver

Blaise McCarty played baseball at Penn State Beaver from 2013-2017 and was named PSUAC Player of the Year in 2014-15. McCarty carried a career .371 batting average, scoring 93 runs and driving in 57 over his 4 years.  He was named USCAA All-American and PSUAC All-Conference his sophomore and senior seasons.  He was named to the PSUAC All-Academic team 3 of his 4 playing seasons. McCarty was a member of the 2016 PSUAC Baseball championship team.

Brandon Orsich, Penn State DuBois

Brandon Orsich was a staple at Penn State DuBois during their prolific run over the last four years. Orsich finished his career 23-1, including wins in the 2018 and 2019 USCAA World Series Championship games. Orsich appeared in 44 games, threw eight complete games, and struck out 112 over 174 innings pitched while pitching to a 3.41 ERA. Orsich earned the Student-Athlete Leadership Award, was a a three-time USCAA All-Academic, and a three-time USCAA Small College World Series champion. He also earned the 2021 USCAA National Student-Athlete of the Year award. 

Tom Osenbach, Penn State Brandywine

Tom Osenbach produced one of the top careers both on the field and in the classroom of any Brandywine baseball player in team history. The four-time First Team All-PSUAC infielder capped his career with a PSUAC Player of the Year award following his senior season in 2016. Osenbach needed less than three seasons to eclipse the 100-hit mark and finished his 138-game career with 178 knocks, along with a .412 batting average and 122 RBI. In addition, Osenbach was named to the First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA and Academic All-Area by the Philadelphia Inquirer at the conclusion of his senior year. 

Matthew Roberts, Penn State Schuylkill

Matt Roberts joined the Schuylkill baseball team in 2014 out of Tamaqua(PA) High School and made an immediate impact at the catching position. In his four years of play, Roberts filled a variety of positions, including first and third base as well as pitcher. Roberts earned PSUAC First Team honors each year from 2015-2017, as well as an Honorable Mention nod in 2018. Roberts was named PSUAC Player of the Year in 2017 as a two-way player, often times catching a full game and pitching a complete game on the same day.  Roberts also received USCAA All-American Honors each of his four seasons, including a First Team selection and two Second Team awards. He holds Schuylkill career records in at bats, hits, doubles, batting average and holds the record for lowest season ERA. Unfortunately, Roberts was taken from us tragically in the winter 2018 and will always be remembered as a member of the Penn State Schuylkill Baseball Mount Rushmore of greats.

Brady Topper, Penn State Mont Alto 

Brady Topper was a four-time letter winner in baseball at Penn State Mont Alto from 2017-2020, including serving as a captain his senior year. He began his career being named the PSUAC Newcomer of the Year and was a Second Team All-Conference selection. Arguably, his most impressive season was his junior when he set career highs in hits (50), doubles (13), homeruns (4), RBIs (39) and 41 total runs scored. Even though his senior season was cut short due to COVID-19, Topper still finished his career a .341 hitter, recording 93 runs scored, 84 RBIs, and seven home runs. He was a three-time USCAA All-American, selected to the USCAA All-Senior Team in 2020, and was named to multiple PSUAC All-Conference teams. He also excelled in the classroom receiving PSUAC All-Academic team recognition several times throughout his career. 

Guy Visconti, Penn State Schuylkill

Guy Visconti joined the baseball team at Schuylkill out of Green Valley High School, Henderson, NV., after a season at Taft Community College. In his three seasons of play Visconti terrorized teams from his spot atop the lineup as well as the ace pitcher on the team. Visconti led the USCAA in stolen bases for two seasons and earned three All-PSUAC honors, including twice on the First Team. He also earned two USCAA Second Team All-American awards. Visconti holds Schuylkill records for both offense and defense. Offensively, Visconti is the career leader in runs and stolen bases as well as the season record holder for runs, singles and stolen bases, and game. On the hill, he holds career records in complete games, victories, and walks/9 and innings pitched in a season. 

Mike Visloski, Penn State Greater Allegheny

Mike Visloski was a four-year player and arguably one of the best players to ever wear a Penn State Greater Allegheny uniform. Visloski hit the in the middle of the order and played right-field for a majority of his career.  The 2010 PSUAC Player of the Year, Visloski was also a three-time PSUAC All-Conference selection and a USCAA All-American.

Adam Wehr, Penn State Greater Allegheny 

Adam Wehr was one of the best position players to ever put on a uniform at Penn State Greater Allegheny. He was a mainstay at 1B/3B and ranks close to the top in many career offensive categories.  A three-time PSUAC All-Conference selection, Wehr was also a USCAA All-American in 2014.

Jeremiah Younker, Penn State Mont Alto

Jeremiah Younker was a four-time letter winner in baseball at Penn State Mont Alto from 2015-2019. Younker put together his best season for Mont Alto his senior year having led the team in many statistical categories and was recognized as the PSUAC West Player of the Year. He finished his career a .441 hitter with 207 hits including 68 which went for extra bases, 31 doubles, 22 triples, 15 homeruns, and 143 RBIs. As a freshman Younker was selected to the PSUAC All-Conference Second Team; as a sophomore, junior and senior he received First-Team honors and is the first student-athlete in Mont Alto History to be named a USCAA All-American all four years.
