Training program available to recovering addicts

If you have a history of addiction recovery and want to help others, Penn State Shenango will host a Beaver campus Continuing Education course on ?Certified Recovery Specialist Training? from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturdays, beginning Oct. 5 and ending Dec. 14, in Sharon Hall room 108 in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania.

Three honored with Alumni Awards at Penn State DuBois Benefit Celebration

Three individuals were recognized by the Penn State DuBois Alumni Society on Oct. 12 for their success and steadfast support of the campus at the annual Alumni Awards ceremony, held during the Penn State DuBois Benefit Celebration at the DuBois Country Club. Richard Ogden received the Lifetime Achievement Award, Anita McDonald the Distinguished Ambassador Award, and Craig Hicks the Outstanding Alumni Award.

Finalists announced in BIG IDEA Contest

Dozens of people located in North Central Pennsylvania recently applied to Ben Franklin?s $50,000 BIG IDEA Contest, held in conjunction with the North Central PA LaunchBox Powered by Penn State DuBois. This week the team had the difficult job of identifying just a few finalists from all of the great applications received from emerging tech startups and small manufacturers. The eight companies moving forward in the contest will make a pitch presentation to a panel of local judges on Thursday, Nov. 21 ? location to be determined.

Fifth straight win for Penn State DuBois volleyball

The Penn State DuBois volleyball team is coming off of their longest winning streak of the season after winning four matches over the weekend. Wednesday night DuBois would go for win number five in a row as they hosted Penn State Beaver in a tough PSUAC match-up.

16 alumni to receive Alumni Fellow Award

The Penn State Alumni Association will honor 16 Penn Staters on Oct. 23 with the Alumni Fellow Award, the highest award given by the Alumni Association.

Penn State Fayette to offer first study-abroad summer program in Greece

Aris Karagiorgakis, assistant teaching professor of psychology at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, will offer two concurrent study-abroad courses in Athens, Greece, during the summer of 2020: Introduction to Psychologies of Religion (PSYCH 230) and Cross-Cultural Psychology (PSYCH 232).

Lecture on mathematics to be held Oct. 11

Polar Plunge to support Mont Alto THON group

Schuylkill nursing professor researches impact of opioid addiction on families

Marianne Adam, associate teaching professor in the College of Nursing at Penn State Schuylkill, is researching the impact of opioid addiction on families with a project titled "Families Forging a Path to Treatment for Opioid Addiction." 2019 Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference shines light on tech innovations

The commitment to the ingenious power of partnership was on full display at the convening of the 2019 Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference, Oct. 3 and 4, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. The event featured 85 startup companies, 90 investors and advisers and 30 sponsors, which all collaborated over the two-day event to propel entrepreneurship and innovation.

Scranton HDFS Community Club hosts suicide prevention event

In recent years, suicide has become a growing scourge on college campuses across the country. But with more education, vigilance and resources, there?s no reason why those numbers can?t dramatically plummet. That was the takeaway from the Penn State Scranton Human Development and Family Studies Community Club?s first educational awareness event of the 2019-20 academic year.

Experience the story of Saul Flores who walked 5,328 miles to document the hardships and dangers immigrants face in their journey to the United States. The program, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, is set for Oct. 15 at Penn State York.

Walkers don high heels for a cause at Penn State York
