Students team up with local police for child safety event

Students in the Administration of Justice program at Penn State DuBois partnered with police on Nov. 19 in efforts to improve the safety of area children, as well as to foster a relationship between the community and police officers. Students joined Sandy Township Police at their station for the ?Children?s Paw Prints with the Police? event.

Workshops highlight educational opportunities for students poised to succeed

Faculty and staff members at Penn State DuBois hosted a collection of workshops on Nov. 20 to help introduce area middle and high school students to some of the options they'll have in both higher education, as well as careers. The Gifted Workshop series was aimed specifically at students in gifted or advanced curriculums, and welcomed more than 40 students in grades seven through 12.

Students share impact of international travel following trip to Ireland

A group of three Penn State DuBois honors students recently shared experiences they gained during a trip to Ireland with the campus Honors Program. John Mark Miller, Andrew Mahle, and Makayla Whaling took the international travel opportunity, available exclusively to honors students, to bolster their educational experience through immersion in another culture.

Mengle Foundation commits $15,000 to support North Central PA LaunchBox

The Glenn and Ruth Mengle Foundation of St. Marys, Pennsylvania, has made a $15,000 gift to support the North Central PA LaunchBox Powered by Penn State DuBois. These funds will be used to enhance the downtown LaunchBox location with state-of-the-art technical equipment that will be made available to entrepreneurs and business representatives using the facility.

DuBois volleyball players named All-Americans

Three Penn State DuBois volleyball players have been named All-Americans by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association for their play on the court. Allison Easton earned 1st Team All-American, Jenna Hyde earned 2nd Team All-American, and Skylar Ceprish earned Honorable Mention.

Soulful crowd fills Greater Allegheny's Wunderley Gymnasium for Crossing Bridges

Penn State Greater Allegheny held its signature program, the Crossing Bridges Summit on Oct. 25, in the Wunderley Gymnasium. Guests watched as the African American Male Mentoring Program was renamed to honor James B. Stewart and the late W. Terrell Jones. Attendees also experienced an in-depth conversation between Cornel West and Johnathan White, addressing the power of love, justice and peace.

About 70 students, faculty and staff attended a panel discussion, titled ?From a Perspective of Healing: Art and Social Service in Dialogue,? on Nov. 14 at the Lehigh Valley campus. The panelists discussed the healing power of art and media related to the issue of sexual assault.

Penn Staters invited to attend Nittany Lion's Holiday Party

Penn Staters are invited to a festive opportunity at the Lehigh Valley campus to celebrate the holiday season. The Nittany Lion?s Holiday Party starts at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Pennsylvania National Guard Association names Mont Alto Campus 'Guard Friendly'

Penn State Mont Alto was recognized as a ?Guard Friendly School? by the Pennsylvania National Guard Associations during its annual conference on Nov. 8 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The University is one of 30 inaugural winners selected from more than 480 schools that receive Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Program Funds and the only college recognized in Franklin County.

Commuter meal plans offer dining options for off-campus students

Penn State students who commute to campus or live in on-campus apartments have a convenient option for grabbing a meal or a snack: the Commuter Meal Plan. The plan, which is charged to the student account, has recently been expanded to three levels and is now offered at additional Penn State locations.

Schuylkill hosts 'Week of Hope,' raises awareness and funds for breast cancer

In mid-October, Penn State Schuylkill hosted its Week of Hope, a series of fundraising and awareness events to combat breast cancer and raise funding for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, which displayed its powerful "67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania" traveling photo exhibit at Schuylkill from October 8 through 21.

Schuylkill professor and team aim to revolutionize physics education

Michael Gallis, associate professor of physics, has been working as part of a global team of 18 individuals on the Open Source Physics Project, which aims to provide high-quality, computer-based curricular resources to engage students in physics, computation and computer modeling. The team?s work has earned them the 2020 Excellence in Physics Education award from the American Physical Society.

Penn State Shenango to host Nurse Practitioner Open House in December

Penn State Shenango will hold a Nurse Practitioner Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Lecture Hall Gallery, located on Shenango Avenue in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Nurses who have their bachelor of science in nursing degree may earn their master of science in nursing degree to become a nurse practitioner, right at the Shenango campus.

Penn State Shenango faculty explore the 'cutting-EDGE' of teaching

While most faculty spend their summer completing research, teaching summer classes, or preparing for the fall semester, Penn State Shenango Assistant Teaching Professor of Nursing Maureen Dunn spent part of her summer abroad, networking with faculty from Lille Catholic University in France and at The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Dunn?s trip was in collaboration with Penn State?s Experiential Digital Global Engagement (EDGE) program.

Shenango to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Month with two presentations

Penn State Shenango will hold two events in November in recognition of Global Entrepreneurship Month. Matt Caputo, assistant teaching professor of engineering, will present ?The Re-design of the OneCar, a Multi-Disciplinary Approach? at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 14. The second presentation, ?Opportunity and Reward: Bridging the Gap between Engineering & Ecology,? will be given by Dan Wallace and Brian Pancher of the WallacePancher Group at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. Both events will be held at the eCenter @ LindenPointe in Hermitage.

Penn State Shenango community loses dear colleague and friend

Robin Elaine Criswell, age 47, of Neshannock Twp., died unexpectedly on Oct. 14. Criswell was an administrative assistant to the Business and Finance Office and Athletics Department at Penn State Shenango for the last two and a half years.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host its biannual Executive Management Series on Oct. 3. The Discussion will focus on the problem of substance misuse and addiction in our communities.
