Penn State Mont Alto Comes All the Way Back to Win 2025 PSUAC Baseball Title

DUBOIS, Pa. - In a rematch of the winner's bracket final and last season's PSUAC Baseball Championship game, familiar foes Penn State DuBois and Penn State Mont Alto faced off in the 2025 PSUAC Baseball Championship game. After Mont Alto forced the if necessary game with a 12-8 win in the first game, the teams endured two rain delays to complete the final game before Mont Alto emerged victorious with a 14-4 win.

The title is Mont Alto's first title since 2022 and third since 2017 as they are the only team other than DuBois to win a baseball title since that season.

Brady Bigler went the distance on the mound in game two, allowing 10 hits and returning stronger after each delay. Bigler's defense was solid behind him as he struck out just three and allowed four earned runs. His teammates also continued their strong performances at the plate as six players recorded an RBI and 10 different players scored a run. Caiden Smith led the way with three runs scored and four RBIs--but what makes those numbers more incredible is Smith had just one hit. But that hit was a big one, a grand slam in the second inning that gave Mont Alto a 6-1 lead. Carter Fogal added two hits and three RBIs while Kyle Neuendorf added three RBIs.

DuBois wouldn't go quietly, cutting the lead to 6-4 after four innings as Grant Lillard doubled in one of the runs. Mont Alto answered with five in the fifth inning as Fogal singled in a run followed by a Braden Zeger added an RBI base hit. John Copenhaver double in the final run of the inning and an 11-4 lead. Mont Alto pushed across three more runs in the sixth for the final tally of 14 runs.

Kyle Elensky and Isaac Tiracorda led the way from the top of the order for DuBois with three hits apiece. Aaron Miller homered for DuBois in the fourth during their mid-game rally.

Mont Alto earns the PSUAC's automatic bid into the 2025 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Small College World Series scheduled to begin on May 12th in DuBois, Pa. DuBois will await its fate as a potential at-large team in the field.

Game 1 - Penn State Mont Alto - 12, Penn State DuBois - 8

With their backs against the wall, Mont Alto needed a win to force a winner-take-all game two in the PSUAC Baseball Tournament Championship game. They got it with a strong 12-8 win over DuBois as the teams head to a third match-up of the weekend.

Each team pushed across a pair of runs in the first inning, but the first big blast came off the bat of Mont Alto's James Sibert who crushed a three-run home run to left centerfield, clearing the building and giving Mont Alto a 4-1 advantage in the second inning. Despite a run from DuBois in the second, Mont Alto kept the pressure on with another of its own in the third with a Gavin Kissel RBI double down the left field line.

Cameron Bailey led the charge in Mont Alto's five-run fourth inning, cracking a three-run homer after Caiden Smith had driven in two with a single as Mont Alto led 10-2. DuBois pushed across a run in the sixth on a Jake Sikora homer to cut the lead to 10-4, but two insurance runs from Mont Alto helped keep them in control. Sikora homered again in the seventh to give cut the margin to four, but Mont Alto's Brady Bigler shut the door and forced the if necessary game.

Elijah White pushed his way through 6 1/3 innings, and despite a few stressful innings, turned in a solid outing. He struck out five and allowed just five hits despite struggling with command. White finished the game with six walks, but battled through to shut down multiple DuBois threats.

Wyatt Kissel and Smith each finished with three hits, as did Bailey. Bailey drove in four runs while Sibert added three RBIs for Mont Alto. Sikora was the star at the plate for DuBois, joined by Aaron Miller with two hits apiece. Miller drove in two while Sikora pushed across four for DuBois, including the final three that provided a spark heading into game two.

The game forced the ninth and final game of the tournament as the teams took a thirty minute break before resuming action.
