Penn State DuBois, York's Yinger Lead After Day 1 of PSUAC Golf Championships
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Day one of the 2025 Penn State University Athletic Conference Golf Championships was haunted by light rain early, with some wind and clouds remaining throughout the day at the Penn State Blue Course on Monday. Overall, PSUAC teams finished with scores higher than just two weeks ago thanks to these conditions, but it didn't stop one player from separating himself.
Penn State York's Dillon Yinger shot an even par 72 on the day, taking the lead in not only the PSUAC portion of the event but as the overall leader of the USCAA Golf National Championships, which are held concurrently. Yinger's round was the only one on the course at that number, and he's two clear of his next competitor in the PSUAC--Penn State Scranton's Connor Mullaney. Yinger's teammate Tony Benkovic sits in third in the PSUAC after an opening round 75.
Despite Yinger and Benkovic's rounds, York is tied for second with Penn State Shenango in the team race after an opening day combined score of 323. Ahead of them sits Penn State DuBois at 315 on the strength of solid rounds from Gavin Kaschalk (77), Cody Fagley (78), Brock Smith (80) and Tyler Rusalem (80). Shenango won the PSUAC Blue Course Invitational just two weeks ago and was led by 78's from both Nathan Stuyvesant and Cody Anderson.
Shenango's best score of the day came from unattached Jacob Csonka, who had qualified for the event as an individual. Csonka's 77 has him tied for fifth in the PSUAC individual race. Penn State Hazleton's Niall Tantrum sits in fourth place in the PSUAC standings after a four-over 76.
In the team race, five teams are within 10 shots of second place, with Penn State Fayette in fourth at 324 and Penn State Mont Alto in fifth at 326. Scranton sits at 327 with a day to play.
The Championships resume with round two on Tuesday, October 14th at the Blue Course. The shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m.
