Myers Earns Win as Wildcats Compete at Nittany Lion Open

 STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Freshman Alex Myers (Horsham) defeated Brendan Kale of Navy as the Pennsylvania College of Technology competed at the Nittany Lion Open at Penn State University Sunday.  Myers pinned Kale at 5:29 notching the only win for the Wildcats at the highly attended event.  "Compared to last week at the Mat Town Open, we wrestled better and against better competition," said head coach Schuyler Frey.  "I would have loved to have more wins but I'm happy with how our guys stepped up."

Penn College sent six wrestlers to the event that drew from top programs in the nation including Penn State, Michigan and Columbia.

Myers defeated Kale in his opening round and then lost to Hunter Manspile of George Mason in a 3-2 decision and then William Smith of Rutgers 8-1.  "[Myers] had the best day," said Frey.  "He's starting to understand how good he can be.  If he made just a couple of adjustments, I believe he would have beaten those wrestlers from George Mason and Rutgers."

Also for the Wildcats, sophomore Tyler Myers (Centre Hall) put up a fight against Jacob Salazar of Michigan losing a 10-4 decision.  Freshman Paul Crutchlow (Morris Plains, N.J.) also wrestled strong with a 10-2 loss to Turtogtokh Luvsandory of the Citadel.

Penn College takes a break for the holidays before getting back into action on January 7 when they travel to Penn State Beaver for a 1 p.m. match.
