Penn State Schuylkill Repeats as PSUAC Women's Soccer Champions
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the third time in the last five seasons, Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State Schuylkill met in the PSUAC Women's Soccer Championship game. In that best of three series, Schuylkill now owns a 2-1 series advantage after a 2-1 win at Panzer Stadium on Tuesday night gave them their second straight women's soccer title.
After winning in overtime last season, Schuylkill put the game away in regular time to become the 2025 champions after sweeping Mont Alto in the regular season. Mont Alto tallied one goal in each of those games, with Schuylkill scoring two and three times in the regular season before their two goal night in the championship match.
Leah Alexander gave Schuylkill an early lead just over six minutes into the game as a ricochet off Mont Alto goalie Kira Weikert's leg went right to Alexander's boot and it was a 1-0 Schuylkill advantage. No team would score over the final 38 minutes of the first half as Mont Alto pressed forward in search of an answer.
Schuylkill came into the second half pushing the ball into their zone and peppering Mont Alto with shots, winning that battle 17-8 on the night. Of the 10 that were on goal, two found their way by Weikert, including Madison Warnack's unassisted goal just over five minutes into the second half.
This time, Mont Alto did answer and did so quickly. PSUAC Rookie of the Year Cameron Dillow took a ball from Grace Lochner cut their deficit to a goal once again less than 30 seconds after Schuylkill's most recent score. Despite that tally and multiple through balls that just missed a quality run at goal, Mont Alto was unable to find an equalizer over the final 40 minutes as Schuylkill hoisted the trophy once again.
Wiekert finished the game with eight saves, including a one-on-one save to keep Mont Alto within reach midway through the second half. Schuylkill's Victoria Grimm picked up two saves as Mont Alto pushed multiple shots wide and high of the net.
Schuylkill is the third PSUAC women's soccer program to repeat as champions since the conference began sponsoring the sport as a championship in 2015. Brandywine won four straight between 2016-2019 while Mont Alto picked up three straight from 2021-2023. Schuylkill is the fourth team to win the title, doing so both in 2024 and now 2025.
Each team's future this season is reliant on earning an at-large bid in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Women's Soccer National Championship tournament scheduled for November 13-17 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Both teams were recently ranked within striking distance of an at-large bid and will learn their fate on Wednesday, November 5th. The PSUAC has five women's soccer programs, one shy of the USCAA's requirement for a conference to receive an automatic bid.
