Q&A: Faculty member's new books explore philosophy, language and interpretation

D. M. Spitzer, adjunct lecturer in arts and humanities at Penn State Mont Alto, recently published two books that explore ancient Greek philosophy through translation, poetry and interpretation. In this Q&A, he discussed his work, which examines how language shapes meaning and challenges traditional ideas of philosophy as a search for a single truth. Through themes of complexity, relation and openness, Spitzer invites readers to engage with early Greek thought in new ways.

Penn State Mont Alto’s Woodsmen’s Team made history this season, capturing first-place titles at both the John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet and the Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen’s Meet — the first time in nearly two decades the campus has earned both championships in the same year. Fueled by teamwork, technical forestry knowledge and athletic skill, students showcased the hands-on learning and tradition that continue to define Penn State Mont Alto’s longstanding forestry legacy.

Penn State launches Canvas resource to support students at closing campuses

Penn State is launching a Canvas-based resource to support students enrolled at Commonwealth Campuses scheduled to close at the end of the 2026-27 academic year. The “Degree Completion & Transition Support” course is being added to eligible students’ Canvas dashboards to provide clear, centralized information as they plan next steps toward completing their degrees.
