Tough PSUAC Loss For Men's Basketball on the Road
Scranton, Pa. - Despite valiant efforts, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team fell 84-75 in a Penn State University Athletic Conference battle against Penn State Worthington-Scranton, Friday night.
Scranton brought the action, as the team jumped out to a quick lead. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) achieved three consecutive jumpers to boost Greater Allegheny's efforts. Senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) and senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) added points to the tally before Addison dropped a few more. These three forces comprised of the majority of the Greater Allegheny scoring drive through the rest of the first half. Junior guard Montel Pashel (Pittsburgh Pa./Peabody) closed the offensive action for GA, as he hit a three-pointer and a jumper to close the first twenty minutes of play with Scranton ahead, 47-31.
Dizon and Byrd added the first five toward the GA mark in the first few minutes after halftime. Freshman guard Alex Dolce (Palm Bay, Fla./Palm Bay) noted a three-pointer to advance GA. Sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) got apart of the mix as the shooter completed a jumper and a three-pointer. Freshman forward Carl London (Easton, Pa./Coatesville) cashed in for five points to boost GA, closing the gap to 71-59. Addison notched four more to inch Scranton closer. Addison, Dixon, Dizon and London all checked in for more points for the Greater Allegheny score.
The game-long deficit was just too much to overcome, as Greater Allegheny found themselves on the short end of the stick, 84-75.
Addison notched 22 points and 13 rebounds alongside five steals and three assists. He achieved 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. Dizon went 9-for-12 from the floor, dropping twenty points and snatching five boards. Dixon finished the game with ten points, five rebounds and three assists.
As a whole, the team went 64.7% (11-17) from the free-throw line alongside out-rebounding Scranton, 58-52.
Greater Allegheny looks onward as they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre for another PSUAC match-up, Saturday afternoon. The men are set to follow the women for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
